Join science writer Simon Singh on a whistle-stop tour through two decades of his bestselling books. In this Oxford Mathematics Public Lecture, Singh will guide us from Fermat’s Last Theorem, through the secret world of cryptography in The Code Book, on to Big Bang and the history of cosmology, then trick us with Treatment: Exploring Alternative Medicine, and finally reveal the hidden maths of The Simpsons and Their Mathematical Secrets.

Simon Singh’s work bridges rigorous scholarship and popular science writing. He began his career in particle physics before joining the BBC, winning a BAFTA for his Fermat’s Last Theorem documentary, and later earning an MBE for services to mathematics education. His books have ignited public curiosity in maths, cryptology, cosmology and medicine alike.

Attendance is free but booking is required for in-person seats. Email external-relations@maths.ox.ac.uk to register. The lecture will also be broadcast live on the Oxford Mathematics YouTube Channel on 27 August 2025 at 17:00, with on-demand viewing available thereafter (no registration needed for the online stream).
