🎭 Siege Theatre’s Romeo & Juliet — Opening Night

Siege Theatre launches their summer season with a bold, site-specific production of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy, staged within the haunting Victorian D-Wing of Oxford Castle Prison. This opening night marks the first of thirteen consecutive performances (3rd–15th August) in a venue where stone walls and iron bars become an extension of the play’s themes of confinement, fate, and forbidden love.

What to expect:

🎭 Immersive prison setting — Experience the Capulet-Montague feud unfold in authentic Victorian prison cells and corridors, where the D-Wing’s oppressive architecture mirrors the societal constraints that doom the young lovers, directed by Robin Belfield with movement by Julia Cave

🎓 Fresh ensemble interpretation — Watch rising talents Meg West (Romeo) and Amie Dee (Juliet) lead a versatile company including Maya Ellis, Gracie Gardner, Toby Goodwin, Vinnie Heaven, and Charles Ward, with original music by Tim Dickinson performed live

🌙 Summer festival atmosphere — Join the first audience of a two-week summer residency with gates opening at 6:30pm for pre-show drinks in the castle grounds, beginning a nightly tradition of open-air Shakespeare in one of Oxford’s most atmospheric historic sites
