OSJ Ensemble Launch Concert at Holywell Music Room 🎻🎹
The Orchestra of St John’s launches its new OSJ Ensemble with a concert at the Holywell Music Room. Violinist Jan Schmolck and Howard Moody on harpsichord and piano perform three of Bach’s sonatas for violin and harpsichord, the Chaconne for solo violin, Howard Moody’s Glass Island, and Arvo Pärt’s Spiegel im Spiegel. The ensemble’s creation was made possible by a generous gift from Ian and Caroline Laing, and the concert is presented in association with the University of Oxford Music Faculty.
What to expect:
🎻 Bach at the heart of the programme — Sonatas in A major, F minor and E major for violin and harpsichord, plus the monumental Chaconne for solo violin
🎹 Old and new side by side — Howard Moody’s Glass Island and Arvo Pärt’s meditative Spiegel im Spiegel sit alongside the Baroque masterworks
🎟️ A new ensemble, accessibly priced — Tickets are £10, or £5 for students; free tickets are available for NHS workers and for disabled attendees by emailing admin@osj.org.uk
