In Trumpโs world, is there room for multilateralism? ๐โ๏ธ
The last year has seen a dramatic turn away from multilateral cooperation towards the assertion of national interest. While President Trump is the most prominent spokesman for this shift, the lecture will trace how the US move away from multilateralism began earlier, and how other countries are also prioritising national interest over international solidarity.
Lord Mark Malloch-Brown, former UN Deputy Secretary-General and UK government minister, will describe the three-way tug of war between the US, China, and emerging powers such as Brazil, India, and South Africa, and explore the likely outcomes for the global order.
The event will be chaired by Professor Ricardo Soares de Oliveira, Co-Director of the Oxford Martin Programme on African Governance.
