Oxford City Morris & Towersey Horseshoes Morris 🔔🎻
The summer unofficially ends with the last morris dancers of the season. Oxford City Morris and the Towersey Horseshoes Morris take to North Parade Avenue outside the Rose & Crown, dancing from 7.30pm to 9pm — lots of fun and music, come down and support Oxford’s traditions.
What to expect:
🎻 Traditional morris dancing in the street — Two long-standing sides — Oxford City, founded in 1938 in their distinctive white, red and blue bell-padded kit, and Towersey Horseshoes — fill North Parade with live music and dance
🎓 A living piece of folk history — The evening’s about how the morris tradition evolved — with echoes of the medieval moresca and long-running questions over whether the word “morris” comes from the Moors of Moorish Spain
🍻 Oxford traditions at the pub — Cheer on the sides from the road as they cap the season, with the Rose & Crown close by for a pint in the evening sun
