Democratic Form 🏛️✨

The concluding lecture of The Carlyle Lectures – The Shape of Democracy, delivered by Jill Frank, President White Professor of History & Political Science at Cornell University. This session turns to Plato’s Statesman to explore how political forms are shaped, contested, and re‑imagined — and how these ancient insights can illuminate democratic possibility today.

Frank examines how the dialogue’s weaving metaphor, distinctions between rule and expertise, and reflections on political mixture offer new ways to think about democratic form and collective governance.

  • 🧠 Insights into rule, expertise, and the weaving metaphor in democratic contexts
